It has been proven through research that around 3% to 4% of the world’s population suffers from a condition known as hyperhidrosis. This is a condition where the patient suffers from excessive sweating in particular body parts which is above natural level. Palmar hiperhidrosis is the condition where the patients suffer from excessive sweating in the palms.

Hands are the most social part of the human body. Everyone uses their hands to communicate with others on a daily basis. When hands become a cause for embarrassment due to excessive seating, it can also affect a person emotionally, mentally and psychologically. Hand may sweat excessively due a number of reasons such as anxiety, tension, heat, stress, physical exertion or nervousness.
There are several forms of treatment available for this condition nowadays. The most basic forms of treatment include using a good antiperspirant on the palms. Hand antiperspirant, like every other antiperspirant, contains an aluminum-based compound that helps to block the sweat glands from producing sweat.

Hand Antiperspirant
Hands contains sweat glands under the skin that produce sweat depending on different situations. Antiperspirant on application gives out aluminum ions which are taken into the cells, lined at the opening of the epidermis. The eccrine-gland ducts are situated at the opening of the epidermis.
As the aluminum ions are sucked into the cells, water is drawn in at the same time into the cells. This makes the cells swell which in turn squeezes the ducts tight shut. In this way, the sweat glands are closed thereby stopping the production of sweat.
Each cell located near the epidermis can suck in water up to a certain level. Once the cell reaches its maximum point of intake, it comes in balance with the concentration of water outside. At this stage, osmosis sets in and the cells start losing water which passes out again. Eventually, the cell’s swelling reduces and it reaches its initial stage again.
Hand Antiperspirants have to be applied at this stage again as the sweat glands will start functioning normally, leading to sweaty palms. |
